Enough so that your return on investment is 3-8 years depending on the type of power generation you use. After that it's only the cost of gas, and if it's cheaper to use grid power than gas you can always switch back. Plus PSE will buy back any excess power you generate at 12 cents/kwh. We are currently paying 8.5 cents/kwh so it only makes sense to do it if you are planning on staying put for 10 or more years.
